MSI Australia appoints a new Managing Director – Greg Johnson

26 Apr, 2023 | Advocacy, For doctors, Media

MSI Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Johnson as its new Managing Director.

MSI Australia is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring sexual and reproductive health services are accessible for all people – and is the nation’s leading provider of contraception and abortion care, and related information and supports.

“Safe access to sexual and reproductive choices and services is a fundamental right for all people” said Greg Johnson.

“I am delighted to be joining MSI Australia to lead this incredible organisation.

“MSI Australia operates a national telephone contact centre, a range of clinical and procedural services across Australia, and is the most experienced provider of telehealth abortion services.

“We are very pleased that the ACT Government announced new funding for free access to our services last week, and the current Australian Government Senate Inquiry into sexual and reproductive health has laid bare the need for a more nationally consistent approach to access, and more funding.”

Greg Johnson has over 30 years’ experience in leadership in healthcare and services. He was previously the CEO of Diabetes Australia for over 10 years and was responsible for its operation of the National Diabetes Services Scheme supporting over 1.4 million Australians.

MSI Australia is part of MSI Reproductive Choices, a global non-profit organisation operating in 37 countries. The global CEO, Simon Cooke, visited Australia to coincide with Greg Johnson commencing in the role.

“Greg’s extensive experience in leadership in healthcare roles in Australia make him the ideal appointment. MSI Australia strives to set the standard in comprehensive abortion care across Australia, and we will continue to lobby for greater access to safe and stigma-free reproductive health services irrespective of location or circumstance,” Mr Cooke said.

MSI Reproductive Choices works across 37 countries to ensure that contraception and safe abortion care is accessible to the over 200 million women who have an unmet need. Of the 73 million induced abortions that take place each year, over 45% are deemed to be unsafe, resulting in moderate to severe harm in over 7 million cases. Our vision is a world where every birth is wanted, and every abortion is safe.
